A recent graduate with a passion for life

I am a woman of the world. I am constantly seeking and learning about ways to make the world a better place. This often involves reading up about current events, gaining understanding about historical conflicts, and listening to inspiring thinkers. I am particularly interested in the treatment of women and girls, and other disadvantaged groups.
When I am not learning about current and historical events, I normally have my head in a book or my journal, trying new recipes or exploring the outdoors with my trusty furry companion.

EDUCATION
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE DUBLIN
BA History and Politics, with a Minor in Social Justice: First Class Honours
Studying at University gave me the opportunity to delve into regions and issues of the world that I had previously been unable to specialise in. I initially began choosing modules around social inequality, involving studies of education, health care and political systems. This developed into gender politics, where I explored feminism and masculinities studies to a higher level. I learnt more about the interconnected inequalities that many groups in society faced, especially women, migrants and members of the BAME community.
Thesis Title: "The untold story of female Syrian refugees in Lebanon. An analysis of the impact of being a refugee on changing gender roles." (1st)
This project allowed me to independently investigate challenges that refugee women face, particularly those who fled civil war in Syria and arrived across the border into Lebanon. I researched issues such as child marriage, loss of security, and potential empowerment. The project has given me a huge amount of appreciation and admiration for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers. Their journeys are inconceivable.
